At A1 Jewellers we want to lead by example. Our customers are majority women so it is only fair that as a brand we value women’s equality. Instead of talking about women’s equality ourselves, we want to share the thoughts of the female staff with you.
“We are primarily a family-owned business. I have only recently rejoined the team as a senior member. Despite being the youngest daughter, I am so grateful that my father (the CEO) and my brothers value my opinions and suggestions. I am excited to see where we go as a brand,” shares Nabila, our Chief Marketing & Product Officer.
“After joining the team I was pleasantly surprised to find that in our office in Faisalabad we have 50% female staff and that A1 Jewellers is very inclusive in their hiring process. We have found generally speaking in Pakistan, significantly fewer women with education and experience in digital marketing, and technology. Parents feel safer for their daughter to pursue a career in teaching so most women come from a teaching and education background. Despite this, they have hired talented ladies who have the potential to learn and are investing in their training. In a cut-throat world of business where we are taught to hire slow, fire fast and hire top talent - it is good to be breaking the biases. We are a mission and values-driven family, and I am proud that we are giving talented girls the chance to enter these fields that they are otherwise blocked from entering due to societal and cultural biases.”

اس کے باوجود انہوں نے ایسی خواتین کی خدمات حاصل کی ہیں جو باصلاحیت ہیں اور سیکھنے کا جزبہ رکھتی ہیں اور پھر ان کی ٹرینینگ میں کافی سرمایا انوسٹ کیا ہے۔ کاروبار کی ایسی دنیا میں جہاں ہمیں سکھایا جاتا ہے کے تیز رفتاری سے کام لینا اور اعلیٰ ٹیلنٹ کی خدمات حاصل کرنا کاروبار کے لیے بہتر ہے۔
تعصبات کو توڑنا اچھا ہے۔ لیکن ہم ایک مشن اور اقدار پر مبنی خاندان ہیں، اور مجھے فخر ہے کہ ہم باصلاحیت لڑکیوں کو ان شعبوں میں داخل ہونے کا موقع فراہم کر رہے ہیں جبکہ دوسری صورت میں وہ سماجی اور ثقافتی تعصبات کی وجہ سے داخل ہونے سے روک دی جاتی ہیں۔

Today a woman should have equal rights and opportunities in every field of life just as a man can. I am happy that A1jewellers allows girls that show passion, courage and abilities an equal opportunity despite a society that is against women’s education and has a point of view that a woman is just a rolling stone that they can dominate at any time. My parents were also afraid of this society and were reluctant to allow me to remain outside of our home for so many hours and work with males. But A1jewellers gave me this opportunity and gave me a safe environment where I can work with peace of my mind and now my parents are also satisfied with my work and have built up trust in me instead of letting the fear of this society limit us. This is all because of A1jewellers and it is my pleasure that I am a part of this team.

اچھا لگ رہا ہے۔ لڑکیاں پاکستان میں زیادہ دیر تک کام نہی کر سکتی ہیں۔ پہلے ہمارے والدین لڑکیوں کے جاب کرنے پر نہیں راضی ہورہے تھے۔ لیکن جب سےہم نے اے ون جے کے ساتھ کام شروع کیا ہے اور بہت زیادہ محفوذ ماھول کی وجہ سے انکی سوچ بدلنی شروع ہو گئی ہے۔
اچھا لگا ہے کہ ہمیں بھی انٹرنیشنیل کمپنی میں سیکھنے اور کام کرنے کا موقع مل رہا ہے۔ مجھے بہت اچھا محسوس ہورہا ہے.
پاکستان میں بھی لڑکیوں کو کام کرنے کی اجازت ہونی چاہیئے، جووہ کرنا چاہیئں تو کر سکتی ہیں۔ لیکن انکو آگہی ہونی چاہئیے۔ پہلے والدین لڑکیوں کو نوکری کرنے کی اجازت نہیں دیتے تھے، بلکہ باہر بھی نہیں جانے دیتے تھے۔ لیکن ہمیں لگتا ہے ہم جا سکتی ہیں، کچھ کر سکتی ہیں۔ مردوں کی طرح خواتین بھی محنتی ہوتی ہیں۔

Baneen, our trainee web administrator is very passionate about the topic. She had to abruptly leave her studies after her father had a heart attack. Having no brothers, it was essential for her to start earning so that their household could survive.
“Girls should also be allowed to work, if they want to do it, they can do it,” she explains. “But there needs to be more awareness.”
We agree with Baneen. It is a common saying, “you can’t be what you can’t see”. We feel that by sharing the stories & voices of our girls, more girls and parents can be inspired and overcome their anxiety.
Baneen shares the hardship & struggle girls face when trying to enter the workplace,
“first girls were not allowed to work they were not even allowed to leave the house. But we believe we can go, do something. Women are hard workers just like men.”
Sadaf, a Pakistani woman who has won the prestigious TechWomen Fellowship explains one of the major barriers girls in Pakistan are facing in entering tech-related roles.
“The difficulty for a woman to break in and secure employment in the field of tech and computer science in Pakistan cannot be underestimated. According to several studies about Pakistan, there is a pervasive internalized belief that the Internet is not appropriate for women and some women do not use it because of negative social perceptions. Some families fear the Internet and ban women and girls from its use due to concerns about cyberstalking and online harassment, and sex trafficking.
